  • Over 1 billion people (almost 1 in 6 people in the world) do not have access to safe drinking water.

  • 2.5 billion people (over 1/3 of the world’s population) do not have access to basic sanitation.

  • About 90 per cent of sewage and 70 per cent of industrial wastes in developing countries are discharged into waterways without treatment, often polluting the usable water supply.
