  • Image More than 3.2 million tons of electronic waste ends up in U.S. landfills each year.  When placed in landfills Electronics begin to break down and contain toxic substances that leach into soil and groundwater.  When incenerated the plastics from electronic form highly toxic dioxins and furans that release into the air.
  • The average American replaces his/her cell phones every 12 months.
  • An estimated 130 Million cellular phones are discarded annually in the U.S, only about 1% of these are recycled.
  • The cadmium from a single phone is can pollute 158,200 gallons of water.
  • Cell phones contain no less than 8 toxic substances including Arsenic, Antimony, Beryllium, Cadmium, Copper, Lead, Nickel and Zinc.
  • These toxic substances leach into soil and groundwater from landfills and form highly toxic dioxins & furans during incineration. These toxins have been associated with cancer and a range of reproductive, neurological and developmental disorders.
