Empowering Students to find Solutions to their
Communities' Water Problems

 The winning students of our 2008 World Water Day International Poster Contest were given the opporutnity to participate in a second ‘Action Phase’ which provides students with the opportunity to learn about and identify water resource related problems in their communities.  Once identified the students work to develop solutions and take responsibility to improve and protect the water supplies in their communities.

Sandu's Water Committee Creates a Community Water Map to Identify Needs
Over the last few months, NVOC has been working closely with each winning student and their local mentors to develop a Community Water Committees; consisting of the student’s peers, teachers, and community members.  Each committee has completed two planning phases which involved community water mapping exercises and a series of questions aimed at getting the students to think about all issues surrounding water supply (pollution, quantity, quality, access, misuse, etc) and enable them to identify specific needs.

We are now in the process of providing technical assistance in the design of solutions to meet their identified needs.  NVOC is seeking funding for each of the student initiated water projects.  For details on each student's project see the links below.

We believe that by providing students with the facts about
depleting water resources and an avenue for exchanging ideas;
they will develop awareness, solutions, and
become vehicles for change
